Welcome to Cusco

By: Mary Reano
Cusco was the historical capital of the Inca Empire. The capital city of the Inca Empire is now the undisputed archaeological capital of the North and South America, as well as the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city. Visitors to Cuzco get a glimpse of the richest heritage of any South American city. In this ancient city mixed with Amerindian and mestizo culture, you'll also find extraordinary textiles, summer festivals and archaeological wonders. These Colorful textiles are a link to the past, as do the carnivals with the tradition in Catholic and Pagan  rituals. Explore Cusco on foot or by car, rafting wild rivers or simply going on the local buses to the remote and dust-worn corners of this far-reaching department.
